Make Wall Hanging Sleeve

This new system requires some give in the sleeve on the quilt so the rod can slip over the hanging hook properly.

A hanging sleeve is a fabric tube sewn to the back of a quilt to make it possible to hang the quilt on the wall. Smaller quilts can be hung with purchased clips sewn on tabs or pins applied to the corners. The finished sleeve will be less than half of the cut size. Larger quilts require a hanging sleeve attached to the back to accommodate a wooden dowel or decorative curtain rod.

The finished size of my wall hanging is 8 x 15. A dowel or a rod or a flat board is slipped through the tube then suspended from nails or screws on the wall. For a larger wall hanging make the sleeve 9 inches long. Now since my wall hanging is small and a 4 wide sleeve is quite unnecessary i ve cut my strip to 8 x 5 8 for the width of the wall hanging and 5 instead of 8 1 2 which is what you would need to make a 4 wide sleeve.
