Screw the hinges into the door.
Making a door double hinged.
Then repeat the process with the bottom hinge.
After making mortises on the door for all three hinges grab the 1x4 or 1x6 that will be the side of the frame that the hinges are attached to.
Be sure that the door you make is the proper thickness for your door jamb.
Building the double door is a straight forward job especially if you use the right plans and carpentry techniques.
Barn doors that swing out need to be mounted on very large and strong hinges and sliding barn doors need to be properly balanced and hung on high quality hardware in order to work properly.
In order to build the doors we recommend you to use the piece of siding cut out to make the opening.
Use a square to make sure the corners are right angles.
A sheet of 3 4 inch exterior grade plywood cut to size and fitted with t strap.
If you plan to make this for the interior it will be too thick to fit the existing jamb and you will have to modify your plan for accents.
The outsides of this door will be 1 1 2 thick which is standard for an exterior door.
Thicker wood will make the door better at keeping heat in but will also make it heavier.
Plywood makes a durable door for a shed storage building or utility locker.
Make sure that the screws are tight and the door feels secured to the shed s door frame.
Cut the piece of plywood in half and attach to it the 1 4 trims.
